Juniata 55, VJC 45

Stevenson, MD.- In the first game of the 9th Annual Legg Mason Winter Classic, the Mustangs hosted the Juniata Eagles. After a good fight, the Mustangs fell to the Eagles 55-45.

Villa Julie took the first lead with a quick jumper by Tara Galvin (Lititz, PA/ Manheim Township) within a minute of play.  The Mustangs held onto the lead until 11:57 when Juniata's Emily Hauser hit a three-point shot to give the Eagles the lead 8-7.  Cara Hill (Oxon Hill, MD/ Oxon Hill) sunk a free-throw to tie the game at 8-8 at 9:36 but that was the last chance the Mustangs had to get ahead.  Juniata ended the half ahead 28-13.

Both teams started the second half strong.  However Juniata kept the lead throughout the rest of the game.  Villa closed the 15 point gap to seven with a set of free-throws by Hill, which is the closest they came to the lead.  The Eagles finished the game with free throws by Kelly Rotan.  The final score was Juniata 55-45.

Despite the loss, Cara Hill was the top scorer of the game with 17 points and five assists.  Tanisha Foster (Baltimore, MD/ St. Frances Academy) led the team with five rebounds and made her 500th career rebound at 2:42 in the first half.  She was honored by Coach Ramer at half time and given the game ball.

The Mustangs will play in the consolation game tomorrow, January 7, at noon, either against Albright or Shenandoah.
