Stevenson, MD.- In the first game of the 9th
Annual Legg Mason Winter Classic, the Mustangs hosted the Juniata
Eagles. After a good fight, the Mustangs fell to the Eagles
55-45.
Villa Julie took the first lead with a quick jumper by
Tara Galvin (Lititz, PA/ Manheim Township) within
a minute of play. The Mustangs held onto the lead until 11:57
when Juniata's Emily Hauser hit a three-point shot to give the
Eagles the lead 8-7. Cara Hill (Oxon Hill,
MD/ Oxon Hill) sunk a free-throw to tie the game at 8-8 at 9:36 but
that was the last chance the Mustangs had to get ahead.
Juniata ended the half ahead 28-13.
Both teams started the second half strong. However Juniata
kept the lead throughout the rest of the game. Villa closed
the 15 point gap to seven with a set of free-throws by
Hill, which is the closest they came to the
lead. The Eagles finished the game with free throws by Kelly
Rotan. The final score was Juniata 55-45.
Despite the loss, Cara Hill was the top scorer
of the game with 17 points and five assists. Tanisha
Foster (Baltimore, MD/ St. Frances Academy) led the team
with five rebounds and made her 500th career rebound at 2:42 in the
first half. She was honored by Coach Ramer at half time and
given the game ball.
The Mustangs will play in the consolation game tomorrow, January
7, at noon, either against Albright or Shenandoah.
