Box Score

Owings Mills, MD.- Five different players scored goals to lead Virginia Wesleyan (1-2) to a 5-1 win over Villa Julie (1-3) in non-conference field hockey action on Saturday afternoon. The Marlins built a 3-0 lead before Villa Julie could answer in the second half.

A pair of quick goals gave the Marlins the early jump. Chrissy Clancy (Oak Hill , Va. / Oakton) scored the game's first goal 8:44 into play. She was assisted by Nicole Duncan (Longmeadow , Ma. / Longmeadow ), who also scored Virginia Wesleyan's second goal of the game just under five minutes later. Clancy set up the Marlins' final goal of the first half as Megan May (McLean , Va. McLean ) sent a shot to the long-left side of the net to make it 3-0, a socre the Marlins carried into the half.

Villa Julie broke into the scoring column on its first shot of the game. Emily Pullarn (Perry Hall, Md. / Perry Hall) inserted a corner which was tapped onto Leigh Geary's (Elkton , Md. / Elkton) stick by Cat Connelley (Fallston , Md. / Fallston). Geary's shot from the top of the circle found the cage to make it 3-1. The Mustangs added four more shots, but was unable to further chip away at the Virginia Wesleyan lead. The Marlins added a pair of insurance markers late to secure the 5-1 win.

Despite the score, Villa's Melinda Muir (Princess Anne, Md. / Washington) played an outstanding game on the defensive end. The freshman thwarted numerous Wesleyan rushes, and was credited with a defensive save in the scramble before Virginia Wesleyan's first goal.
