Box Score Chestertown, MD- Villa Julie picked up a
win and a loss at the Penny Fall Classic hosted by Washington
College Saturday afternoon. The Mustangs (10-6) swept the
Washington Shorewomen (3-13) 3-0 in the opening match of the day,
but ended up on the wrong end of the sweep in falling to Catholic
(10-9) in the following match.
Villa built an early 15-8 lead on host Washington in the first
game of the match. That momentum propelled the Mustangs to a 3-0
sweep of the Shorewomen. Carol Moore (Catonsville,
MD / Arlington Baptist) and Marisa Bender
(Hagerstown, MD / S. Hagerstown) each recorded 13 kills in the win,
while Kristina Loskarn (Towson, MD / Towson
Catholic) aided the offense with 41 of the team's 44 assists.
Defensively, Villa benefited from 29 Julie Olson
(Spofford, NH / Keene) digs. Four different players accounted for a
pair of blocks in the win.
Catholic's Kilah Fox recorded 13 kills to lead
the Cardinals past Villa in the second match of the day. Meanwhile,
Jessica Schoenfeld served up five aces, while
Emily McGlynn dished out 42 assists for Catholic.
Villa got nine kills out of Moore. Loskarn recorded an
additional 20 assists, while Bender came up with 14 digs.
Villa moves to 10-6 after Saturday's action. The Mustangs return
to action tomorrow at Chestnut Hill for a conference match.
