Emily Gates Places 57th at NCAA Nationals Debut

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Stevenson women's cross country junior Emily Gates finished 57th out of 277 competitors at the NCAA Division III Women's Cross Country Championship Saturday at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park.  Gates, who was Stevenson's first-ever women's cross country runner to qualify, finished with a 6K time of 22:26.3

Gates ran the opening kilometer in 3:36.4, sitting 52nd overall.  She worked her way up to the 47th position at the 3K mark, then was 51st with two kilometers remaining with a split time of 14:55.4.

Gates became Stevenson's first female cross country nationals qualifier after finishing third at the NCAA Mideast Regional last Saturday.  She also finished second at the Middle Atlantic Conference championship on November 2.
