STEVENSON, Md. - Freshman Mikhayla Sabo placed 14th overall with a time of 24:17.7, earning her Rookie of the Year honors at the Middle Atlantic Conference Cross Country Championship, held on a rainy Greenspring Campus course. Sabo is the first athlete in program history to win MAC Rookie of the Year.
The host Mustangs placed fifth out of 14 schools with a team score of 126, which is the program's highest finish at the MAC Championships.
Sophomore Emily Gates finished a spot ahead of Sabo with a time of 24:06.9, giving her second team honors. Junior Achol Odolla finished the 6k course in 24:50.5, which earned a spot on the All-MAC Third Team.
Senior Kelly Winklbauer also picked up third team honors by placing 27th with a 25:04.4.
Junior Cassandra Morris clocked a 26:24.5 to finish 55th and round out the team score for the Mustangs.
Clare Schoen of Misericordia won the individual championship with a time of 23:03.9, while her school won the team title with a team score of 53. Misericordia has won two conference titles in a row, and four of the last five.
The Mustangs run next at the NCAA Mideast Regional Championship, hosted by DeSales, on Saturday, November 10 at 11:00 a.m.
