Mustangs Finish MAC Commonwealth Slate Unbeaten

FREDERICK, Md. - The Stevenson University women's volleyball team completed its eighth straight trip through the MAC Commonwealth regular season unbeaten as it swept host Hood College 3-0 at BB&T Arena Thursday night.  Set scores were 25-11, 25-12, 25-13.

  • Stevenson (26-2, 8-0 MAC Commonwealth) opened a 7-2 lead after scoring four straight points with Mackenzie Blevins serving.
  • After Hood (2-27, 0-8 MAC Commonwealth) picked up a point, the Mustangs scored the next seven to go up 14-3 on a block by Shannon Baily and Julie Nightwine.
  • The guests closed the set on a 6-1 run and a Blevins kill closed things out.

  • Piper Connors had three kills as the Mustangs opened up with a 6-0 run.
  • The Mustangs took a 17-5 lead on a Victoria Bryant service ace before the Blazers scored four straight points to make it 17-9.
  • Stevenson closed on a 7-2 run that included two Connors kills and three by Sarah Straub.

  • Blevins had three service aces in a 6-0 run that put the Mustangs up 8-2.
  • Leading 18-11, the Mustangs reeled off four straight points capped by a Straub ace that made it 22-11.
  • A Hood attack error closed out the match.

  • Stevenson improved to 66-0 all-time in MAC Commonwealth regular season play.
  • All 18 players saw action for the Mustangs.
  • Connors had a team-high eight kills, while Straub had seven and Katie Leftridge five.
  • Leftridge moved into fourth place in career kills with 1,064, surpassing former teammate Moriah Savage who had 1,063.
  • The Mustangs racked up 15 service aces, with Blevins and Kayla Vaeth each recording four and Leftridge three.
  • Sarah Riggin had a team-high 10 digs.
  • Caroline Dangel finished with 16 assists, while Nightwine added 13.
  • Stevenson hit .353 while the Blazers hit .091 for the match.

  • Stevenson closes out the regular season Friday night, hosting Scranton in a non-conference match at 7 pm at Owings Mills Gymnasium.
  • The Mustangs open the MAC Commonwealth Championship Wednesday, as the top-seeded Mustangs will host a semifinal at 7 pm.  Stevenson will welcome either fourth-seeded Lycoming or No. 5 seed Lebanon Valley.
