Mustangs Fall in Four at Marymount (Va.)

ARLINGTON, Va. - Host Marymount (Va.) University registered a 3-1 non-conference women's volleyball victory over Stevenson University Tuesday night at Converse Family Fieldhouse.  Set scores were 25-20, 25-18, 20-25, 25-15.

  • The Saints (18-10) scored seven of the first nine points of the match.
  • Stevenson (23-2) scored the next four points to pull within one, 7-6, on a Mackenzie Blevins service ace.
  • Leading 16-14, Marymount used a 4-1 run to take a 20-15 lead.
  • Stevenson scored three straight points and back-to-back kills by Simone Gest pulled the Mustangs within three, 23-20.
  • Back-to-back Caylee Shelton kills closed out the first set.

  • Stevenson took a 6-4 lead after three straight points, with a Blevins ace and a Haley Hoover block capping the run.
  • The Mustangs stretched the lead to four, 10-6, following an Emily Pellini service ace.
  • Marymount rattled off eight straight points to take a 15-11 lead following a Stevenson attack error.
  • A kill by Caroline Dangel halted the Saint run.
  • Up 20-15, the hosts put the set away with three straight points to go up 23-15.

  • Trailing 10-9, Stevenson scored six of the next seven points to build a 15-11 lead following a kill by Hoover.
  • The Saints scored the next four points, with a block knotting the frame 15-15.
  • A block by Hoover and Katie Leftridge sparked a 7-1 run that was capped by a kill by Gest.
  • A Marymount service error closed out the third set as the Mustangs stayed alive.

  • The lead changed hands four times early, with a Blevins service ace and a Marymount attack error putting Stevenson up 6-4.
  • With the set knotted 9-9, the Saints reeled off six straight points to take a 15-9 lead.
  • Stevenson trailed 21-15 following a kill by Shannon Baily, but the hosts had the final four points of the match to close things out.

  • Marymount hit .211 for the match, while the Mustangs hit .163.
  • Leftridge led Stevenson with 11 kills and 12 digs.  She sits just 38 digs away from 1,000 for her career.
  • Freshmen Hoover, Baily and Gest each finished with six kills.
  • Hoover also recorded six blocks, while Victoria Prokic added four.
  • Kayla Vaeth had a team-high 15 digs.
  • Dangel handed out 13 assists, while Julie Nightwine had 16 assists and seven digs.
  • Blevins and Darian Hileman each had three service aces.
  • Marymount finished with 13 service aces as it extended its win streak to four matches.

  • Stevenson returns to MAC Commonwealth action Saturday, traveling to Lycoming for a 1 pm contest.
  • The Mustangs return home Tuesday, October 29, entertaining Alvernia in a 7 pm MAC Commonwealth matchup at Owings Mills Gymnasium.
