OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Three players finished with double-digit kills as Stevenson University improved to 19-0 on the season with a 3-0 non-conference women's volleyball victory over Elizabethtown College Tuesday night at Owings Mills Gymnasium. Set scores were 25-14, 25-14, 25-23.
- Elizabethtown (17-7) held a 13-12 lead following a Stevenson attack error.
- With freshman Haley Hoover serving, the Mustangs reeled off 12 straight points to take a 24-13 lead.
- Shannon Baily and Victoria Prokic each had three kills during the run.
- Another Prokic kill closed out the set.
- The Mustangs hit .333 in the first set while the Blue Jays hit .200
- Stevenson jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the set following back-to-back kills by Katie Leftridge and Hoover and a Blue Jay attack error.
- The Mustangs increased the lead to 20-9 following another Leftridge kill.
- Elizabethtown pulled within eight, 22-14, but back-to-back Leftridge kills, followed by a kill by Baily, closed out the frame.
- The hosts used a 4-1 run to break open a close set and go up 19-14 on a Simone Gest kill.
- Trailing 24-18, the Blue Jays reeled off five straight points to cut the lead to one, 24-23, following a Mustang attack error.
- A kill by Leftridge closed things out.
- At 19-0, Stevenson remains one of three unbeaten teams nationally.
- The Mustangs upped their win streak at Owings Mills Gymnasium to 18 matches.
- Stevenson hit .345 match while holding Etown to .096 hitting.
- Leftridge hit .480 and totaled 14 kills and 16 digs.
- Prokic and Gest each had 10 kills, with Prokic hitting .471 and Gest .364.
- Baily chipped in with eight kills.
- Julie Nightwine registered 21 assists and eight digs, while Caroline Dangel had 20 asissts and six digs.
- Kayla Vaeth added 12 digs.
- Stevenson travels to Catholic for a 7 pm non-conference contest on Thursday, October 10.
- The next Mustang home game is Tuesday, October 15, when Stevenson entertains Widener in a 7 pm MAC Commonwealth matchup at Owings Mills Gymnasium.
