WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - Junior Nina Bretz and sophomore Megan Waskiewicz advanced to the quarterfinals of their respective draws at the Middle Atlantic Conference Individual Championships, hosted by Wilkes and King's College.
Third-seeded Waskiewicz was dominant in her straight-set victory in the opening round of No. 3 singles, taking the match by a score of 6-2, 6-1. In her quarterfinal match, however, Waskiewicz would bow out to Arcadia by a 6-1, 6-2 score.
In No. 5 singles, Bretz overcame a one-set deficit to take her first round match over Arcadia by a 2-6, 6-3, 10-6 score. But in the quarterfinals, Bretz would eventually fall to second-seeded Mia Capozzoli of FDU-Florham by a 7-5, 6-2 margin.
Sophomore Esha Kashmiri overcame a one-set deficit, but would drop her No. 6 singles quarterfinal match by a 6-1, 6-7 (5), 10-5 score. Kashmiri had a bye in the opening round.
Both junior Jenna Skove and senior Kirstyn Davidson dropped their respective opening round matches in No. 1 and No. 2 in straight sets. Junior Kelsi Mentzer dropped her No. 3 singles match by 6-1, 6-2 score.
This tournament concludes the fall season for Stevenson. The Mustangs resume play on March 30, 2019 when they open up the spring season at Lebanon Valley.
