FROSTBURG, Md. - Freshman Allison Arters netted her second goal this season while senior Lauren Spivey scored her seventh career goal as the Stevenson women's soccer team posted a 2-0 non-conference victory over Frostburg State Saturday afternoon at Bobcat Stadium.
All four wins for the Mustangs (4-2) this season have been shutout victories. It is also the third consecutive victory over their former CAC-foe and eighth win in the last 11 meetings. Frostburg State leads the all-time series, 13-10-3 but Stevenson is 8-1-2 since 2009.
The Bobcats (1-5) recorded four of the first five shots of the game but that would be the only four shots of the half for the hosts, whose final opening half shot came in the 22nd minute. Two of those shots were on net and both saved by senior Tiffany McKee.
Arters first and only shot of the game found the back of the net to give Stevenson a 1-0 lead in the 35th minute after sending home a loose ball that bounced off of goalkeeper Jenny Bullers.
Just 4:16 later, Spivey doubled the visitors lead after finishing a loose ball following a corner kick by senior Brittney Celano. It is the first goal for Spivey since September 2, 2016. The senior was limited to just five games last season before a season ending injury.
Frostburg State again held the early shot edge to start the second half, getting three of the first four shots. But McKee came up again with a pair of saves to seal her fourth shutout of the season and 19th solo shutout of her career.
McKee is just two solo shutouts shy of tying the career record of the record of 21 set by Brittany Ross '12. Ross holds the all-time record of 21.4 shutouts.
The Mustangs held a 12-7 advantage in shots and an 8-4 edge in corner kicks, including 5-3 in the second half.
Stevenson continues its six-game road trip on Wednesday, September 20 when the Mustangs travel to Shenandoah for a non-conference contest beginning at 7:00 p.m.
