Mustangs Fall in Codfish Championship Game to Williams

BOSTON, Mass. - Williams scored a pair of second period goals just 2:45 apart while the Stevenson women's ice hockey team was shutout for just the second time this season as the Mustangs fell 2-0 in the 13th Annaul Codfish Bowl hosted by UMAss Boston.

  • The Mustangs (4-3-2) came out firing, recording a pair of shots on net in the opening 1:29 of the contest.
  • Senior Annie Smyth-Hammond was then tested as she stopped the next sit shots, including three in less than a minute.
  • Williams (4-3-0) outshot Stevenson, 11-5 in the opening period with both goalies keeping the game scoreless through one period of play.

  • Just like she did in the first period, freshman Ashlyn Bray recorded a shot on net in the first minute of the period.
  • At the 2:41 mark, senior Allyson Barlow fired a shot of the pipe.
  • Twenty seconds after Marissa Anderson made a save, the Ephs scored the opening goal of the game as tournament MVP Elizabeth Welch found the back of the net.
  • Brianna Hill made it 2-0 in favor of Wiliams at the 7:47 mark, just 2:45 after the first goal.
  • Senior Jordan Pirrello recorded the next shot of the game before Smyth-Hammond made five consecutive saves.

  • Williams was whistled for the first penalty of the game, coming at the 5:05 mark, giving the Mustangs the first power play opportunity.
  • With two seconds remaining in the power play, junior Trinity Barcless fired a shot off the pipe.
  • At the 8:08 mark, Stevenson was called for a penalty but Smyth-Hammond had a pair of saves while sophomore Paige Sullivan had a pair of blocked shots.
  • Hill also hit the pipe on a shot on the power play.
  • The Mustangs went back on the power play with 6:37 remaining in regulation yet it was the Ephs who recorded two of the three shots.

  • Williams outshot Stevenson, 35-14, the Mustangs lowest shot total this season.
  • Smyth-Hammond finished with season-best 33 saves and is 121 saves shy of 1,000 for her career.
  • Sullivan and sophomore Breanna Crosson finished with a game-high four blocked shots.
  • Both teams won 21 face-offs. Ferrara went 7-for-10 while Barcless won a game-best 12.
  • Stevenson is now 1-1 in the Codfish Bowl championship game while Williams won in its first-ever Codfish Bowl appearance.

  • Stevenson concludes the 2019 portion of its schedule on Saturday, December 7 when the Mustangs host a two-game non-conference series versus Endicott beginning at 7:00 p.m.
