ANNVILLE, Pa. - After posting a third place finish at the 11th Annual Codfish Bowl, Stevenson women's ice hockey senior Chelsea Blackburn was named the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Player of the Week while sophomore Annie Smyth-Hammond was named the Defensive Player of the Week announced by the league on Monday.
It is the first player of the week awards in the MAC for the Mustangs this season while Blackburn earns her sixth career conference player of the week honor. Meanwhile, it is the third weekly honor in Smyth-Hammond's career after earning both rookie and goaltender of the week honors last season in the Colonial Hockey Conference.
Blackburn finished the weekend with a pair of goals, including the game-winning goal with 3:33 remaining in regulation versus Wesleyan (Conn.). It is the 18th career game-winning goal for Blackburn who is now six points shy of 100. The goal was also her 10th at the Codfish Bowl in three years. Blackburn leads the team with three goals this season.
For Smyth-Hammond, she won her lone start of the week, finishing with 22 saves on 23 shots. After allowing an early goal, the sophomore stopped 22 consecutive shots, including 10 in the opening period.
Stevenson returns to action on Friday, December 1 when the Mustangs host a United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) and MAC conference versus King's (Pa.). Puck drop is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
