ASTON, Pa. - Stevenson women's ice hockey sophomore McKenzie Taggart scored her team-leading 12th goal of the season, but Neumann scored three-straight goals, including the game-winner 3:35 into the third period as the Knights held on four a 3-2 victory Saturday at the IceWorks Complex.
The Mustangs (5-12-1) are now 1-3 in one goal games this season and 3-4 over their first two.
Taggart snapped her nine game goal scoring drought with her first tally since December 1. She scored just over nine minutes into the first period off an assist from sophomore Molly O'Neil who picked up her team-leading 10th assist.
However, the Knights (4-10-1) scored five minutes later to tie the game at 1-1 on a goal by Kelly Fox.
Fox then assisted on a goal by Meghan Power at 12:01 of the second period to give Neumann the lead for good before Casey Kilduff netted the game-winner at 3:35 of the third.
Despite two more power plays and an extra attacker over the final five minutes, the Mustangs could not get the equalizer as they fell for the fourth time in as many meetings against the Knights in the last two seasons.
Sophomore Sarah Modzelewski stopped 38 shots in net for Stevenson while Justina Mayr had 31 for Neumann.
The Mustangs committed a season-low two penalties totaling four minutes while finishing 1-for-6 on the power play.
Stevenson and Neumann conclude their two-game series on Sunday at 3:00 p.m.
