Following 14 Lead Changes and Six Ties, Albright Picks Up Late Win

READING, Pa. - The Stevenson University women's basketball team competed in a MAC Commonwealth match-up against Albright College on Saturday afternoon. The Mustangs fell to the Lions 74-66. The contest featured 14 lead changes and six ties. The Lions and the Mustangs each posted 24 points in the final quarter but the Mustangs were unable to come back off the Lions six point lead in the final 30 seconds. 

  • Olivia Coleman started things off for the Mustangs (3-8, 0-4 MAC Commonwealth) with a jumpshot at the 8:52 mark.
  • Hannah Crist netted two free throws for Stevenson at the 7:55 mark to put the Mustangs up 4-0.
  • A Dejah Terrell three started things off for Albright (13-0, 4-0 MAC Commonwealth) at the 7:31 mark, followed by a Amina Rauf three at the 6:54 mark, capped by a Brady Wassel layup at the 5:41 mark to give Albright an 8-4 lead over the Mustangs.
  • Following a Morgan Pennick free throw at the 5:28 mark, the game remain scoreless for nearly a minute and a half until Brynne Deluzio hit a three for the Mustangs to tie the game, 8-8.
  • After four lead changes in the final minute of the first quarter, with five seconds left Junior Brandi Hall finished with a layup to give Stevenson a three point lead, 15-12.

  • 14 seconds into second quarter play, Coleman converted a layup to give Stevenson a five point lead.
  • At the 8:58 mark and 6:04 mark, Rauf posted her second and third threes of the day for Albright to lead 20-19.
  • Pennick responded with a basket to put Stevenson up 21-20
  • With 33 seconds left until the break, Kellie Johnson hit a three for the Mustangs, Rauf came back with seven seconds left to post another three but Stevenson went into halftime with a 34-33 lead.

  • Thirteen seconds into the second half, Terrell put Albright back on top with a layup.
  • Hall scored 24 seconds later to put Stevenson back in front.
  • After two ties at the 6:59 mark and 3:47 mark, the Lions went on an 8-0 run in the final three minutes to end the quarter leading 50-42.

  • Johnson and Deluzio each scored in the opening minute to get Stevenson within six of Albright.
  • A Johnson three at the 8:26 mark brought the Mustangs within five of the Lions.
  • One minute later, Wassel posted a three for Albright to make the score, 57-49, Hall responded with a triple 20 seconds later bringing Stevenson back within five. 
  • Stevenson got within four, 69-65, on a Coleman basket at the 1:18 mark.
  • Maggie O'Hare knocked down a three on Albright's next possession to make it a seven-point game.
  • Stevenson got back within six with 31 seconds left on a Deluzio free throw, but got no closer.

  • Stevenson shot 36.0% overall while Albright shot 42.2%.
  • The Lions outrebounded the Mustangs narrowly by one, 47-46.
  • The game featured 14 lead changes and six ties. 
  • The Mustangs went 6-19 behind the arc, Johnson and Crist each hitting two.
  • Crist and Coleman each tallied 14 points for the Mustangs, with Coleman also grabbing eight rebounds and blocking five shots.
  • Hall put up 13 points for Stevenson, going 6-9 from the floor.
  • Johnson picked up 10 points and six rebounds, reaching double figures for the third straight game.

  • The Mustangs host Goucher College on Monday, January 6 for a non-conference match-up at 6 p.m. at Owings Mills Gymnasium.
