Mustangs Fall on the Road Against No.18 Marymount (Va.)

ARLINGTON, Va. - No. 18 ranked Marymount (Va.) downed the Stevenson women's basketball team 77-43 Tuesday night at the Converse Family Fieldhouse. 

  • Marymount (Va.) (6-0) left the Mustangs (2-2) scoreless for the first eight and a half minutes of the first quarter until Maleah Smith placed in a basket for Stevenson with 2:42 left in the first quarter.
  • A jump shot by Brandi Hall at the 2:05 mark bumped the Mustangs to four points.
  • Saints Kathryn Ryan and Gabriella Haddad free throws finished the quarter 4-18. 

  • A Kellie Johnson layup at the 9:03 mark and a Morgan Pennick three at the 8:44 mark put the Mustangs 9-20
  • Brynne Deluzio posted two good layups at the 6:23 and 4:34 marks, giving the Mustangs their final two points of the half.
  • In the final three and half minutes of the half, the Saints scored the last 10 points.

  • The Mustangs used a 15-7 run in the beginning of the second half to pull within 11, 28-39, ending in a Morgan Pennick basket at the 5:42 mark.
  • Stevenson fell when the Saints added six points to lead by 17 points at the 2:02 mark.
  • Hall and Smith both posted jump shots at the 1:40 and 1:19 marks, respectively.
  • Smith and Laila Abdul-Rahman each posted one free throw for the Mustangs to end the frame.

  • The Saints held a 20-6 run over the Mustangs in the first six minutes of the quarter.
  • An Abdul-Rahman layup at the 3:55 mark puts the Mustangs 40-71.
  • With eight seconds left to play, Claire Smith puts two good free throws in for the Saints. 
  • A Karleigh Leo three at the 00:00 mark puts Stevenson 43-77.

  • Pennick and Deluzio lead the Mustangs with seven points and four rebounds, respectively. 
  • Hall recorded six points, four steals, three rebounds, and two assists. 
  • The Mustangs shot 26.9% and were 4-18 behind the arc.
  • The visitors took 14 trips to the free throw line, going 3-11
  • Stevenson took 18 more three's than the Saints, going 22.2%.

  • Stevenson is set to host previously ranked No. 17 Christopher Newport on Sunday, December 1 for a 4 p.m. contest at the Owings Mills Gymnasium for the Mustangs home opener.
