OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson softball senior Tiffany McKee hit a three-run walk-off home run while freshman Kayla Briles recorded the single seasons stolen base record as the Mustangs posted a MAC Commonwealth doubleheader split with Alvernia Saturday afternoon at Weinberg-Fine Stadium.
The Mustangs (13-15, 5-9 MAC Commonwealth) opened with a 5-2 game one victory before committing a season-high eight errors in a game two, 11-6 loss.
In game one, Stevenson got on the board first in the bottom of the third inning after an RBI double by senior Brooke Steinbach to score Briles who led off the inning with a walk. The Golden Wolves (20-9-1, 6-8 MAC Commonwealth) responded in the top of the fourth after a two-out error scored an unearned run. The two teams traded runs over the next two innings, with McKee hitting a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning.
Tied at 2-2 entering the bottom of the seventh, McKee took a 2-2 pitch to centerfield for her sixth home run of the season for the walk-off victory.
Steinbach went 2-for-3 at the plate while McKee had four RBIs and Briles scored three runs. In the pitching circle, sophomore Morghan Fulton picked up her eighth win of the season after scattering just five hits and allowing just one earned run.
In game two, Alvernia scored five runs in the top of the first inning on five hits and two errors by the Mustangs. Stevenson slowly chipped away at the deficit, scoring four runs over the next three innings, including a two-RBI double by senior Jasmyn Ogletree in the bottom of the first inning.
In the sixth inning, Finnen hit a two-out home run to centerfield to drive in a pair of runs, her first home run since her rookie season.
Stevenson returns to action on Sunday, April 22 when the Mustangs travel to McDaniel for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m.
