CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Devonte Williams captured the Middle Atlantic Conference championship in the 100 meter dash for the fourth straight year as he led the Stevenson University men's outdoor track and field team to a program-best third place finish at the MAC Outdoor Track and Field Championship at DeSales University that finished Saturday.
The Mustangs finished with 119 points to edge Lebanon Valley (115) for the third spot. Widener captured the meet with 173 points, while Messiah placed second with 163. Stevenson's previous best finish in the event had been fifth, established last season.
Williams set a program and meet record in winning the 100, finishing in 10.43 seconds, currently the second-fastest 100 meter dash time in Division III. The previous record was 10.60 seconds set by Ozzie Brown in 2007. Stevenson runners took three of the top four spots, with Matt Riggins (10.75) placing third and Tylor Bailey (10.81) finishing fourth. Malcolm Hayward (11.14) finished seventh.
The 4x100 relay team of Bailey, Hayward, Riggins and Williams also took gold, winning with a 41.75 second effort, over a second and a half ahead of second place Lebanon Valley.
Williams finished second in the 200 meter dash as he was edged by 0.01 seconds by Juwan Petties-Jackson of Misericordia, the Division III national champion in the 200 at this year's NCAA indoor nationals. Both Petties-Jackson and Williams bested the previous meet record of 21.34 seconds set in 2000 by Tony Brown of Widener. The 21.33 is also a program record.
Freshman Sidney Yap took first place in the discus throw with a 41.41 meter toss. Senior Kenneth Scott-Kelow placed fourth in the triple jump with a school-record leap of 14.19 meters.
Sophomore Langston Gash finished fourth in the 5000 meters with a time of 15:09.53, while finishing fifth in the 1500 with a 4:03.77 effort. Senior Quenlan Dunn placed fifth in the 110 hurdles with a 16.14 second effort. He also finished eighth in the long jump at 6.39 meters. Sophomore Tevin Bailey was sixth with a 6.52 meter leap.
Horne finished sixth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 51.50 seconds, while Iddriss was seventh in the 800 with a 2:01.01 effort.
