Outdoor Track and Field Teams Head to MAC Championships This Weekend

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Stevenson University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams will be in competition this weekend at the Middle Atlantic Conference Championship at DeSales University.  The championship begins on Thursday, May 4 and concludes on Saturday, May 6.

Both teams will be looking to improve upon their finish from last season, in which the men finished fifth overall while the women placed eighth.  Both squads finished fourth at this year's MAC indoor track championships.

Admission is free on Thursday and $6 for adults on Friday and Saturday and $3 for students each day.  All-session passes are available for $10 and $5.

Headlining the men's side will be senior Devonte Williams, who aims to win the conference title in both the 100 and 200 meter dashes for a fourth consecutive season.  He was the Co-Track Athlete of the Year last spring, and earned Athlete of the Year honors in this past winter's meet. He owns the fastest time in the conference this season in both events, posting a 10.73 in the 100 and a 21.66 in the 200 at the Hopkins Invitational.

The Mustang men own the top performance in the conference in a two other events.  The 4x100 relay team, consisting of Williams, Aaron Holliday, Tylor Bailey and Matt Riggins, ran a school record 41.57 at last weekend's Penn Relays, the best mark in the conference this season by over a second.  It is also the 12th-fastest 4x100 effort in the conference this season.

Sophomore Tevin Bailey also owns the conference's top high jump effort this season.  He posted a 1.99 meter jump at the Goucher Classic in March.

On the women's side, freshman Danika Ani, the MAC Field Rookie of the Year at the indoor championship, currently has the nation's fourth-longest shot put toss of 14.10 meters set at the Towson Invitational on April 15.

Stevenson also has the top mark in the outdoor season in the 200 meter dash, the 1500 meter, the 4x100 meter relay, and the 4x400 meter relay.

Freshman Cierra Roberts ran the fastest time in the 200 at 25.84 seconds in the Hopkins Invitational, while sophomore Kelly Winklbauer ran a time of 4:47.52 in the 1500 at the Morgan State Legacy meet on April 21.  The 4x100 squad of Roberts, Chalisse Lockley, Kimberly Hammond and Dyonne Hicks ran a 49.08 in March at Goucher, while the 4x400 team of Hicks, Roberts, Hammond and Jaleah Sydnor won the Centennial/MAC relay at the Penn Relays with a 3:58.36 effort.
