Mustangs Open Strong at River Hawks Opener

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Stevenson University men's indoor track and field team opened its season Friday night at the River Hawks Opener hosted by Susquehanna University at the Garrett Center.

In the 3,000-meter run, Patrick Watson and Langston Gash finished 1-2, with Watson posting a program-record time of 8:37.04, while Gash clocked a time of 8:47.47.  Aditya Singh finished fifth overall with a 9:05.25 effort.

Junior Iddriss Iddriss was one of three Mustangs in the top five of the mile run, winning with a time of 4:27.84.  Sean Dodson was fourth with a time of 4:36.80, while Sam Mercoli was fifth with a time of 4:40.03.

Iddriss was also a part of Stevenson's winning 1600 sprint medley team, along with Kendall Belser, Joshua Mitchell and Dereck Davis, who posted a time of 3:41.62 to win by nearly six seconds.

Elijah Smith and Dodson finished 1-2 in the 800-meter run, with Smith clocking a 2:05.14, while Dodson finished with a time of 2:06.55.

The 4x400 relay team of Vladhimir Theophile, Avery Wood, Ritchie Case and Cooper Smelski finished second overall with a time of 2:42.07.  Wood was also third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 53.80 seconds.

The Mustangs had five of the six qualifiers for the 60-meter dash finals, with Morgan Cheatham placing second with a time of 7.06 seconds.  Davis was third at 7.07 seconds, followed by Clement Onyebadi (7.12), Malcolm Hayward (7.14) and Case (7.34).

Onyebadi finished third in the high jump (1.83 meters) and fifth in the long jump (6.15 meters), while Case was second in the long jump with a 6.40 meter leap.  Forrest Allen placed third in the weight throw with a  14.24 meter toss.

Stevenson is idle until January 13, when it competes at Shenandoah University's Wilkins Center Invitational.
