Mustangs Post Third Straight Win, Down Neumann 6-1

ASTON, Pa. - Stevenson men's ice hockey senior Nick Gray and junior Carl Lyden each netted two goals while senior Dominic Brenza dished out three assists as the Mustangs posted a 6-1 United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) victory over Neumann Saturday afternoon at IceWorks Skating Complex.

  • The Mustangs (5-1-0, 4-1-0 UCHC) went on the power play just 1:03 into the contest and scored just one minute into the man advantage as junior Houston Wilson scored on an assist from Brenza and Bruce Stachitas.
  • Stevenson went back on the power play at the 7:42 mark and recorded four shots on net that were all stopped by Mike Cosentino.
  • Just one second after the penalty ended, the Knights (2-4-0, 2-4-0 UCHC) went back to the box before the Mustangs had a five-on-three 1:20 later.
  • The visitors had one save on the two-man advantage before going back to the two-man advantage just four seconds after the first one ended.
  • Gray netted his fifth power play goal at the 12:51 mark, a four-on-three power play, on assists from sophomore Ryan Patrick and freshman Austin Master.
  • With 2:52 remaining in the period, Lyden netted a power play on assists from Brenza and Wilson.

  • After the Mustangs killed off the remaining two seconds on the penalty kill, Stevenson went on the power play at the 1:55 mark but did not record a shot on net.
  • Senior Chris Javens pushed the Mustangs lead to 4-0 as he found the back of the net with an unassisted tally.
  • Just one second after Stevenson's power play expired, Gray lit the lamp for the second time as he was once again assisted by Patrick and Master.

  • Early in the period, the Mustangs went on the penalty kill but it lasted just three seconds before Neumann was whistled for a penalty.
  • Lyden netted his second power play goal of the game, a four-on-three power play goal on assists from Gray and Brenza.
  • Neumann avoided the shutout with an even strength goal at the 16:07 mark.

  • Stevenson outshot Neumann, 43-27, including 19-8 in the first period.
  • The Mustangs finished 4-for-11 on the power play and 4-for-4 on the penalty kill. The four power play goals are tied for second in program history.
  • Stevenson won 42 of the 69 face-offs with Brenza winning 13.
  • It is the third game and second straight for Master with two assists while Patrick tallies his fifth career multi-assist game and third this season.
  • Meanwhile, it is the third career three-assist game for Brenza while Gray nets his third career multi-goal game.
  • It is also the third career multi-point game for Wilson, who finished with a goal and an assist.

  • Stevenson returns to action on Friday, November 29 when the Mustangs host a non-conference contest versus 15th-ranked St. Norbert beginning at 7:00 p.m.
