Mustangs Fall to Defending National Champions, St. Norbert

DE PERE, Wis. - The Stevenson men's ice hockey team was shutout for just the fourth time in program history as third-ranked and defending National Champion, St. Norbert, posted a, 3-0, non-conference victory Friday evening at Cornerstone Community Center.

  • Neither team found the back of the net in the opening period.
  • Both teams had nine shots on net in the frame.
  • Neither team was whistled for a penalty in the first 20 minutes.

  • The Green Knights (5-2-1) netted a pair of goals in the period, both by Kurt Black.
  • Black broke the scoreless tie at 8:15 with a power play goal, just 30 seconds into the team's first power play.
  • With 3:09 left in the period, Black found the back of the net for the second time to give the hosts a 2-0 intermission lead.
  • The Mustangs (4-3-0) were 0-for-1 on the power play in the period while St. Nortbert was 1-for-1.

  • Luke Davison scored an unassisted tally with 5:55 remaining in regulation to push the score to 3-0.
  • Neither team converted on their power play attempt, with the Mustangs going to the box with 14 seconds remaining.
  • Stevenson held a 14-10 edge in shots in the period.

  • St. Norbert held a slight, 33-30, edge in shots.
  • The Green Knights were 1-for-2 on the power play while Stevenson was 0-for-3.
  • Freshman Riley McVeigh finished with 30 saves on the night.
  • The Mustangs fall to 0-9 versus ranked opponents, having been shutout in two of those games.
  • It was the first-ever meeting between the two schools.

  • The Mustangs return home on Friday, December 7 when the team hosts a United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) and Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) contest versus Lebanon Valley beginning at 7:00 p.m.
