FRONT ROYAL, VA. - Freshman Shane Angle and junior Matthew Shur both shot a one-over par 71 to finish tied for ninth at the season-opening Greene Turtle Invitational, held at the Shenandoah Valley Golf Club. The Mustangs finished tied for fourth out of 16 schools with a total score of 289. Shur's score was a career best.
The event was originally scheduled for two rounds, but Sunday's opening round was postponed due to rain.
Junior Matthew Maione finished a stroke back of Angle and Shur, placing him into a tie for 18th overall. Maione's score was a stroke off of his career best and matches his lowest score from last season.
Junior Johnny Messina carded a 75, which is just a stroke off of his career best, to round out the team score of Stevenson.
Josh Hill of Guilford and AJ Stouffer of Bridgewater finished tied for first after both players fired rounds of three-under par (67). Guilford took the team title with a combined score of one-over par.
The Mustangs tee off next at the Dickinson Invitational, held at the Carlisle Barracks Golf Club in Carlisle, Pa., on Tuesday, September 11.
