LAKELAND, Fla. - The Stevenson University women's beach volleyball team dropped a pair of matches to Division II Florida Southern by scores of 5-0 and 4-1 Saturday afternoon.
In the day's second match, Stevenson's No. 1 pair of Darian Hileman and Piper Connors picked up a 21-18, 21-17 win to record the first Mustang lone point of the day. However, the Mustangs sent the other four matches to a third set.
At No. 2, Katie Leftridge and Emily Pellini took the first set 22-20 before falling 20-22, 21-10, 15-12. Emily Castro and Caroline Dangel rallied to force a third set before being defeated 21-16, 21-23, 15-8.
Sammy Porter and Sarah Riggin also forced a third set at No. 4 before the Mocs prevailed 21-7, 19-21, 15-7. At No. 5, Mackenzie Blevins and Grace Chaffee were 21-12 victors in the first set before FSC went on to a 12-21, 21-9, 15-10 win.
In the first match Hileman and Connors took the first set 21-16 before the Mocs rallied to take a 16-21, 21-16, 15-12 decision.
Stevenson returns to action April 6-7 when it travels to Tennessee to take part in a tri-match with Carson-Newman and Lincoln Memorial.
