Beach Volleyball Caps Season With a Pair of Victories

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Stevenson University women's beach volleyball team closed out its 2018 season with a pair of 5-0 wins over Carson-Newman and Morgan State at the Stevenson Invitational Sunday.

Against the Eagles, the closest match came at No. 5, as sophomore Emily Castro and freshman Lizi Cudal went to a third set before winning 21-13, 17-21, 15-4.  The exhibition match featuring senior Katie McGuire and freshman Sarah Riggin also went to a third set, with Carson-Newman prevailing 17-21, 21-15, 15-12.

McGuire and Riggin won their exhibition match against the Bears, winning 23-21, 21-17.  At No. 1, senior Annika Schwartz and sophomore Trang Christensen allowed just 14 points in a 21-5, 21-9 win, while senior Lauren Weaver and sophomore Katie Leftridge were 21-8, 21-11 winners at No. 2.

Sophomore Darian Hileman and freshman Jessi Freeman (No. 3) and sophomores Julie Nightwine and Victoria Prokic (No. 4) each finished 2-0 on the day and 4-0 on the weekend.
