ELSAH, Ill. – The Stevenson University women's beach volleyball team picked up its first win over a Division I opponent Saturday, sweeping Morehead State 5-0 to cap a 4-0 weekend. In the opener Saturday, the Mustangs defeated Lewis and Clark Community College 5-0.
Against the Eagles, Stevenson (14-6) posted a pair of three-set triumphs. At No. 1, senior Annika Schwartz and sophomore Trang Christensen pulled out a 21-14, 14-21, 15-11 victory, while at No. 3, sophomore Darian Hileman and freshman Jessi Freeman rallied for an 18-21, 21-11, 15-7 win. At No. 5, sophomore Emily Castro and freshman Lizi Cudal prevented a third set after a hotly-contested second with a 21-15, 23-21 win.
The Mustangs did not allow more than 13 points in any set against Lewis and Clark, with Schwartz and Christensen winning 21-6, 21-8. Sophomore Katie Leftridge and senior Lauren Weaver recorded a 21-9, 21-10 win at No. 2, while at fours, sophomores Victoria Prokic and Julie Nightwine were 21-12, 21-13 winners.
Stevenson closes out its season the weekend of April 28-29 when it hosts the third annual Stevenson Invitational.
