ELSAH, Ill. – The Stevenson University women's beach volleyball team posted a pair of 5-0 decisions over host Principia and Ottawa on Friday afternoon.
Against Principia, the Mustangs (12-6) won all five matches in straight sets. Senior Annika Schwartz and sophomore Trang Christensen won 21-11, 21-12, while senior Lauren Weaver and sophomore Katie Leftridge were 21-18, 21-9 winners at No. 2. Sophomore Darian Hileman and freshman Jessi Freeman prevailed 21-8, 21-18 at No. 3, while sophomores Julie Nightwine and Victoria Prokic won 21-11, 21-7 at No. 4. Sophomore Emily Castro and freshman Lizi Cudal were pushed in the second set before posting a 21-12, 23-21 win.
Stevenson allowed Ottawa to score more than 14 points in a set just once in the sweep. Castro and Cudal were in the closest match of the nightcap, winning 21-9, 21-16. Nightwine and Prokic allowed just five points in the second set of a 21-13, 21-5 triumph.
The Mustangs return to action Saturday, facing Lewis and Clark Community College and Division I Morehead State.
