LAKELAND, Fla. – The Stevenson University women's beach volleyball team split a pair of matches against Division II foes on its final day in Florida during spring break. The Mustangs fell 3-2 to Florida Southern, then rebounded with a 3-2 win over Saint Leo.
Sophomore Darian Hileman and freshman Jessi Freeman improved to 8-0 during the Florida trip at No. 3. The pair were 21-15, 21-9 winners against Florida Southern, then pulled out a 24-22 21-19 win against Saint Leo.
Stevenson (7-5) also won at No. 4 against the Mocs, with sophomores Victoria Prokic and Julie Nightwine prevailing 21-15, 21-15. Senior Annika Schwartz and sophomore Trang Christensen fell 21-19, 21-19 at No. 1.
Against the Lions, senior Lauren Weaver and sophomore Katie Leftridge rallied for a 13-21, 21-17,15-8 win at No. 2 to clinch the match after it was tied 2-2. Schwartz and Christensen posted a 24-22, 21-8 victory.
Stevenson is idle until the weekend of April 7-8 when it competes in the Small College National Championship in Taveras, Florida.
