KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Stevenson University women's beach volleyball team finished 1-1 for the second straight day at the Holiday Inn Emerald Beach Classic Saturday. The Mustangs were edged 3-2 by Missouri Baptist, then defeated Huntingdon 4-1.
Against Huntingdon, the Mustangs (2-2) got wins at the top four flights. At No. 1, senior Lauren Weaver and sophomore Katie Leftridge pulled out a 21-14, 15-21, 15-12 victory, while Stevenson also took a three-set win at No. 2, with sophomore Darian Hileman and freshman Jessi Freeman rallying for a 13-21, 21-12, 15-12 win. Sophomore Trang Christensen and freshman Lizi Cudal were 21-8, 21-14 winners at No. 3, while sophomores Julie Nightwine and Victoria Prokic prevailed at No. 4 by identical 21-10, 21-10 scores.
In the first match of the day, Weaver and Leftridge win 24-22, 21-15, while Nightwine and Prokic posted a 21-13, 21-15 triumph. Senior Katie McGuire and freshman Sarah Riggin forced a fifth set at No. 5, but fell 21-13, 11-21, 15-13.
Stevenson returns to action Sunday, March 11, when it takes on St. Thomas (Fla.) and Florida National at St. Thomas in Miami.
