OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The No. 1 Stevenson field hockey team defeated No. 4 Hood, 4-1, in the MAC Commonwealth Semifinals on Wednesday evening.
Kailen Hibshman opened the scoring in the 11th minute with an unassisted goal, followed by a tally from Coco Wallace in the 18th minute. Hailey Mertz extended the lead to 3-0 in the 24th minute off a feed from Wallace, before the Blazers broke through just before halftime to make it a 3-1 game at the break.
Stevenson controlled the second half, outshooting Hood 10-0. The lone goal of the half came in the 50th minute when Hibshman converted a penalty stroke to secure the 4-1 victory.
The Mustangs outshot Hood 20-4 overall and 12-3 on goal. Hibshman recorded a four-point performance, while Wallace tallied three and Mertz added two. Jordan Vradenburgh made two saves for the Mustangs in the win.
Stevenson advances to the MAC Commonwealth Championship on Saturday. The match is set for noon at Owings Mills East, against No. 3 Messiah.
