James Riordon has taken the helm as the new Stevenson Men's and Women's Swimming head coach.
Riordon previously worked as a swim coach at Merritt Athletic Swimming and at Padonia Swim club. At Merritt Athletic Swimming, he coached athletes who medaled in the 2023 Parapan American Games and competed in the 2024 Paralympic Games.
Riordon, who graduated from the University of Maryland, was a founding member of the Club Swimming program at his alma mater, following the discontinuation of the Men's Varsity program in 2013.
"I'm thrilled to join the Stevenson community and lead the Mustangs' Men's and Women's Swimming programs. It's an awesome group of athletes with a lot of potential, and I'm excited to help them continue to grow and compete at the highest level possible," said Riordon.
Stevenson's new swim coach has a track record of training his athletes with stroke refinement and fundamental mechanics to foster efficiency and confidence.
His efforts have seen growth and strong mentorship across varying levels, ranging from youths to post-collegiate athletes.
Senior Associate Athletic Director, Operations, Matt Grimm, said, "We are excited for James to join the Mustang family. He has a track record of bringing out the best in his swimmers, and we are excited for that to extend to our Men's and Women's teams here at Stevenson."
Associate Athletics Director and Women's Basketball Head Coach, Jackie Boswell, said, "We are thrilled to have James join Stevenson. We are extremely proud of how both swim teams have dealt with the recent transition over the past few months."
Both swim teams swept their season openers against Hood College and Goucher College at the Hood tri-meet in Frederick, Maryland, on October 4.
Boswell added, "This will be an exciting time for the swim programs, and we look forward to how James will help these programs grow with his leadership."
Riordon's first meet in charge will be at the St. Mary's Tri-meet against St Mary's College of Maryland and Bridgewater College on Novermber 1, in St. Mary's City, Maryland.
