OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Stevenson women's basketball team is set to open the 2023-24 campaign against the Chatham University Cougars at McDaniel College on Friday, November 10 at 8:00 p.m. for the Rebecca Martin Memorial Tip-Off Tournament.
A Look Back
Women's basketball finished the 2022-23 season with a 7-18 (6-10 MACC) record, finishing seventh place in the conference.
Maleah Smith topped the team in both offensive (68) and defensive rebounds (84) while former Mustang guard
Laci Johnson led the team in points with 347 and 53 three-pointers made. Leaders
Maleah Smith and
Morgan Pennick have graduated, but rising offensive leaders were found in
Emori Jeselskis and
Tessa Boswell last season, with Boswell also improving on the defensive end.
What to Expect
For the 2023-24 season, the team will look towards Boswell and Jeselskis on the offensive end of the ball. Jeselskis netted 22 three pointers and Boswell added 36. Jeselskis finished with 158 points, 32 steals, and six blocks, while Boswell finished with 153 points, 18 steals, and six blocks. Boswell finished with 66 defensive rebounds, adding 74 total rebounds last season.
Head coach Jackie Boswell will welcome back eight returners and eight newcomers including a transfer. Seven newcomers are first years to round out the young squad. Recent women's basketball graduates

The team will scrimmage at both Juniata College and Goucher College on October 30 and November 4, respectively.

This will be the first game in program history the Mustangs will play the Cougars in women's basketball. The Cougars scored a collective 1885 points last season with an average 69.8 points scored per game. Their roster will welcome back 11 returners and 10 newcomers. In rebounds, guard Hannah Chenault led with 92 total defensive rebounds while forward Alyssa Laukus led with 65 total offensive rebounds. Guard Ashlie Louden led the team offensively with 69 three pointers made and 390 totaled scored points.
All Cougars mentioned are making a return to the team for the 2023-24 season. The Cougars finished 19-8 (14-6 PAC) overall in 2022-23, placing fourth in the conference and advancing to the PAC championships, finishing short to No. 2 Saint Vincent 68-52.
