Kira Olds came to Stevenson as the Associate Athletic Director and Head Athletic Trainer in September, 2017. Olds ovesees a full-time sports medicine staff of six that provides athletic training services to Stevenson’s 27 NCAA Division III varsity teams as well as the strength and conditioning area.
Olds served as the head athletic trainer at Kalamazoo College in Kalamazoo, Michigan from 2011 until October, 2015, supervising a sports medicine staff that provided services to 18 varsity teams. While at Kalamazoo she helped develop an online campus-wide health history documentation program, reviewed and revised sports medicine procedures to align with department, institutional and conference policies and procedures, and served on several committees, including the Student Health Advisory and Week of Wellness committees. Olds was also the insurance coordinator for the secondary insurance policy.
Most recently, Olds worked as an athletic trainer with Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids, Michigan, serving as the on-site athletic trainer for Weller Truck Parts as a member of the Orthopedics at Work division. While with Spectrum she had a 98+% successful closure rate on open work reported and personal injuries and designed, created and implemented a new data collection program.
Before Kalamazoo, Olds was an assistant athletic trainer at Lincoln (Pa.) University from 2009-11 and a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Western Illinois University from 2007-09. She served as the athletic trainer for the Traverse City (Mich.) Beach Bums of the Frontier League in the summer of 2008, serving as the host trainer for the 2008 Frontier League All-Star Game, and was an athletic trainer at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City from 2005-07.
Olds completed her Doctor of Education in Sport Management with an emphasis in Leadership and a Sports Medicine Specialty from the United States Sports Academy in November, 2016. She earned a master’s in Kinesiology from Western Illinois in 2010, and her bachelor’s in Athletic Training with a minor in Coaching from Ball State in 2005. Olds is also a certified strength and conditioning specialist.
