ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Stevenson University women's volleyball team extended its season-opening win streak to nine matches with two wins at the Buttermaker Tournament hosted by Muhlenberg College on Saturday. The Mustangs (9-0) defeated Virginia Wesleyan 3-1, then posted a 3-0 sweep of Neumann.
Stevenson is off to its best start since opening 2013 with 23 straight victories.
Against Virginia Wesleyan (5-3), Stevenson prevailed by scores of 26-24, 20-25, 25-18, 25-16. Junior Moriah Savage posted 16 kills, while senior Lauren Weaver had 13 and senior Annika Schwartz recorded 11 kills and 20 digs. Sophomore Katie Leftridge tallied 10 kills and 15 digs. Sophomore Caroline Dangel finished with 27 assists and 21 digs, while classmate Julie Nightwine added 23 assists and seven digs. Senior Deanna Bradbury had a team-high 23 digs.
The Mustangs downed the Knights (1-7) by scores of 25-18, 25-18, 25-14. Weaver led Stevenson with eight kills, while Leftridge recorded seven kills and 10 digs. Schwartz recorded 12 digs and five kills, with Savage also posting five kills. Sophomore Emily Castro notched 17 assists, with Bradbury finishing with 16 digs.
Schwartz and Savage were named to the All-Tournament Team.
Stevenson returns to action Wednesday evening when it heads to Marymount (Va.) for a 7:00 contest.
