Women's Volleyball Earns AVCA Team Academic Award

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Stevenson University women's volleyball team was one of 150 NCAA Division III teams and a record 822 overall to earn the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award.  In addition, the Mustangs were named to the newly-created AVCA Team Academic Honor Roll for having among the top 25 highest team GPAs in NCAA Division III.

To be eligible for the AVCA Team Academic Award, a team must maintain a 3.3 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale. Stevenson posted a 3.57 team GPA, with 16 of 18 squad members carrying at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average through the spring semester.

A total of 413 women's volleyball squads from all three NCAA divisions were honored, along with NAIA, high school and men's squads.

The Stevenson University women's volleyball team finished 26-8 overall, captured its fifth straight MAC Commonwealth championship and made its sixth straight NCAA Championship appearance in 2016.  The Mustangs open the 2017 campaign on Friday, September 1 at the Sea Gull Invitational hosted by Salisbury University.
