Box score

STEVENSON, Md. - Stevenson rallied from a 2-0 deficit to force a fifth set, but fell just short in its comeback attempt as it dropped the last set by just three points, losing a CAC contest to York (Pa.) at Student Union Gymnasium on Saturday, 3-2.

The Mustangs (6-5, 1-1 CAC) have dropped four their last six and find themselves tied with York (6-4, 1-1 CAC) for fourth-place in the conference standings. A win would have catapulted Stevenson into sole possession of first place as the only team with two conference victories.

Freshman Avery Gabbard (Arnold/Broadneck) posted her third double double of the season on Saturday, totaling 12 kills and 14 digs. She leads the team in both categories this season.

Junior Alex Mercer (Eldersburg/Liberty) is second on the team with 85 kills this season after totaling nine on Saturday.

Meanwhile, sophomore Alexa Carney (Towson/Towson) is tied with Gabbad for the team lead in digs after totaling a career-high 25 against York.

Stevenson lost the first two sets to the Spartans 25-12 and 25-21 before rallying for a 25-20 and 25-22 victory in the third and fourth. In the fifth, York was able to use a late run to take the set and the game, 15-12.

The Mustangs were limited by 28 errors and .106 hitting percentage.
