Rega, Ani Go One-Two in Shot Put, Mustangs Finish Fifth at MAC Championships

CHESTER, Pa. - Senior Jess Rega claimed the gold medal in the shot put with a toss of 13.23 meters on the final day of the MAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Widener. Junior Danika Ani took second overall in the event with a top throw of 12.82 meters. Rega's performance is currently second in the Mideast Region. The Mustangs placed fifth overall in the team standings with 80 points.

Junior Kimberly Hammond took silver in the long jump with a top leap of 5.52 meters, giving her All-MAC Second Team honors. Hammond would also take sixth in the 100m dash final with a season-best time of 12.92 seconds. 

Also claiming All-MAC honors was sophomore Rachel Panek, who clocked a 1:04.97 in the 400m hurdles to take third overall. Panek also placed fourth in the 100m hurdles with a 15.39.

In the 4x100m relay, junior Chalisse Lockley, Panek, sophomore Ryley Hinson and Hammond finished with a combined time of 50.01 to take sixth in the event. 

To close out the meet, freshman Ashlynne Raby, Hammond, junior Jaleah Sydnor and senior Mary Sam clocked a 4:07.25 in the 4x400m relay to place seventh.

Messiah won their third-straight MAC Outdoor Championship with 188 points.

The Mustangs continue their season at the Swarthmore Last Chance Meet on Monday, May 13.
