Ani Wins Shot Put, Mustangs Second After Day One of ECAC's

New York, N.Y. - Sophomore Danika Ani's toss of 13.08 meters gave her first place overall in the shot put at the ECAC Indoor Championships, held at The Armory. After the first of two days of competition, the Mustangs are second overall out of 19 teams with 29 points. Misericordia leads with 39.

Junior Jess Rega placed third in the shot put with a top toss of 12.52 meters, while sophomore Kiarra Nowell placed fourth with a throw of 11.87 meters.

Freshman Rachel Panek, who won MAC Rookie of the Year at last week's conference championship, placed fourth overall out of 14 athletes in the pentathlon with 2952 points. Panek took first overall in the 800 meter run with a personal-best time of 2:32.38, while taking second in the shot put with a 9.47m toss. In the 60m hurdles, Panek placed third with a time of 9.54 seconds. 

In the long jump, sophomore Dyonne Hicks and sophomore Kimberly Hammond took seventh and eighth overall with leaps of 5.06 and 4.98m, respectively. 

In the 4x200m relay, freshmen Ryley Hinson and Shayri Perez, and sophomores Chalisse Lockley and Demi Davis-Waters placed ninth with a combined time of 1:50.67.

Perez and Hammond missed out on the 60m dash finals with times of 8.15 and 8.22. 

The second and final day of the meet takes place on Saturday, March 3.
