WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Stevenson women's lacrosse senior Olivia Monteiro scored a career-best six goals for the third time this season as the Mustangs secured the No. 2 seed in the upcoming MAC Commonwealth playoffs with a 17-10 victory Tuesday afternoon at Shangraw Complex.
For the fifth consecutive season, the Mustangs (9-6, 6-2 MAC Commonwealth) finish as one of the top two teams in the league. The win was also the team's sixth straight victory as Stevenson remains a perfect 5-0 against Lycoming.
Senior Tori Bruno started the scoring just 1:44 into the contest on an assist from classmate Brady Heher. after a free-position goal by freshman Carly Bowes, Bruno and Heher hooked up again to five the visitors a three-goal lead.
The Mustangs took a 7-0 advantage as Brady and freshman Mallory Davila both got into the scoring column. Senior Mackenzie Reese became the sixth Mustang to score a first half goal as she scored two of the final Stevenson goals.
After the visitors scored the first two goals of the second half, the Warriors (8-6, 4-3 MAC Commonwealth) went on a 5-2 run to cut the deficit to six with team leading scorer Kelly McGinniss scoring four of those goals.
But that would be as close as Lycoming would get as the Mustangs scored four of the final six goals.
For Monteiro, it is the 16th time in her career she has totaled at least 16 points and 23rd time she has scored at least three goals. She also extends her point streak to 16 while moving into fifth place with 193 points and sixth with 142 goals.
Stevenson concludes its regular season on Saturday, April 29 with a non-conference contest versus Denison at Bethel Park High School. Opening draw is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
