REISTERSTOWN, Md. - Stevenson women's ice hockey senior Monica Pozuc netted her first career hat trick and tied the school record with seven points while classmate Chelsea Blackburn set the program record with five assists as the Mustangs posted a 10-1 United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) and Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) victory Friday evening at Reisterstown Sportsplex.
As a team, the 10 goals by the Mustangs (9-7-4, 6-3-2 UCHC/3-0-0 MAC) ranks tied for fourth while the 16 assists rank tied for third. The three power play goals also rank tied for third while the 85 shots rank fourth. With the win, the team also sits in fourth place in the UCHC.
Just 1:29 into the contest, senior Kellen Wittman scored her seventh goal of the season on an assist from classmate Allie Bruns. After the Dutchmen (2-14-2) tied the game at 1-1, junior Cierra Siemasko scored her first of two goals on the first of four assists from Pozuc. Pozuc ended the opening period with a power play goal with 35.3 seconds remaining.
Freshman Trinity Barcless scored the first and last goals of the second period, including the second one unassisted. Both Pozuc and Blackburn recorded two assists in the period while Siemasko and sophomore Allyson Barlow each found the back of the net. Both juniors Allie Sabatini and Maddy Ricci picked up assists on Barlow's goal.
In the third period, Blackburn netted her 13th goal of the season while Pozuc added two power play goals to set the individual game record with three power play goals in the game. Freshman Casey Storck picked up her first career point, finishing with three assists in the third period alone.
The Mustangs outshot Lebanon Valley, 85-14 while finishing 3-for-8 on the power play and a perfect 3-for-3 on the penalty kill. The hosts also won 47 of the 64 face-offs, with Storck winning a game-high 13 face-offs.
Stevenson returns to action on Saturday, February 3 when the Mustangs and Lebanon Valley complete a UCHC/MAC home and home series. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
