MORRISVILLE, N.Y. - Stevenson women's ice hockey sophomore Monica Pozuc scored the game's lone goal as the Mustangs posted a 1-0 Colonial Hockey Conference victory over Morrisville St. Saturday evening of the Ice Plex.
With the win, the Mustangs (18-3-1, 10-0-1 CHC) pushed their winning streak to seven and are one win shy of tying the program record for road wins in a season with 10. The team also improved to 18-0-0 this season when scoring first.
Pozuc tallied her 12th point of the season in conference play with her first period goal. The sophomore went one on five as the rest of the Mustangs were on a line change and beat Renee Schmaltz with a wrister glove side.
Sophomore Sarah Antonelli picked up her 10th point of the year with the assist.
After outshooting the hosts, 14-8, in the opening period, Stevenson was outshot 21-9 the rest of the way, including 12-5 in the third period. The Mustangs improved to 5-3-1 when getting outshot by their opponent.
Stevenson was 0-for-6 on the power play as it failed to score on the player advantage for the second straight game. However, the Mustangs penalty kill remained perfect for the sixth consecutive game as it was 4-for-4, including killing off a five-minute major.
Senior Sarah Modzelewski recorded her eighth shutout of the season and fifth in conference play as she knocked away all 29 shots. The defense also recorded 15 blocked shots, including three each by seniors Katie Abbott and Brooke Webber.
Stevenson can earn a first round bye with a win when the Mustangs and Morrisville St. face-off for the second of a two-game series on Sunday, February 14. Puck drops at 2:00 p.m.
