REISTERSTOWN, Md. - Stevenson women's ice hockey's top line of seniors Jessie Capanelli and McKenzie Taggart and sophomore Chelsea Blackburn accounted for all nine points as the Mustangs won their ninth straight home game with a 4-0 Colonial Hockey Conference victory over Salem St. Saturday evening at Reisterstown Sportsplex.
With the win, the Mustangs (17-3-1, 9-0-1 CHC) set a new program record with 17 wins while also maintaining sole possession of first place in the conference. Stevenson holds a two game lead over both Endicott and Morrisville St.
The win was also the 11th shutout of the season for Stevenson, including the seventh for senior Sarah Modzelewski who knocked away all 10 shots she faced. The defense has allowed just one goal in the last 311:20.
The Mustangs broke the seal on Blackburn's 16th goal of the season with just under five minutes remaining in the opening frame. Blackburn, who finished with three points, now holds the program record with 28 points in a single season. She is also three goals shy of tying the single season record for goals in a season, a mark she set a season ago.
Right after a Stevenson penalty expired, Taggart buried her 30th career goal off a one touch pass from Capanelli across the front of the net. Capanelli has assisted on five of Taggart's six goals this season.
Capanelli scored just 1:30 into the third period as she beat goalkeeper Jenn Toussaint off a back handed pass from Blackburn. Capanelli has recorded a point in 15 of the 20 games she has played in while Blackburn has tallied a point in 14.
Blackburn finished the scoring with a shorthanded empty net goal, for her 20th point in nine conference games this season. Twelve of those points have come on goals. It was also the fourth shorthanded goal in her career.
The top line, who has been paired together for nine games, has totaled 36 points this season on 14 goals and 22 assists.
Stevenson hits the road for the final time this regular season as the Mustangs travel to Morrisville St. for a two-game Colonial Hockey Conference series beginning on Saturday, February 13. Opening face-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
