MAC CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Stevenson University women's golf team will be gunning for its third straight Middle Atlantic Conference title as the league holds its seventh annual championship this weekend (April 22-23) at Hershey Country Club's East Course in Hershey, Pa.

It is the seventh MAC Women's Golf Championship, and the third straight season it is being held at the Hershey Country Club (HCC). It is also the second year that the women's tournament will be a two-round tournament. The HCC East Course is a par 71 course.

Admission to the championship is free. However, spectators will need a wristband to be permitted on the course. Wristbands can be obtained upon check-in at championship headquarters in front of the clubhouse by the putting green and the 18th green. Parking is available on site next to the club house and driving range. Pairings, results, recaps and photos can be followed on the MAC's championship central page during the championship.

Stevenson captured last year's tournament title with a two-day total of 741, besting Eastern University by 27 strokes.  The Mustangs placed three golfers in the top 10, with Alicia Greene and Emily Haas tying for second at 176, while Morgan Wirtz placed seventh with a two-day total of 186.  Haas and Wirtz return for the Mustangs this season.

Wirtz has finished in the top five eight times and the top 10 12 times in 16 events and leads Stevenson with a stroke average of 85.0.  Haas has nine top 10 finishes and an 88.2 average, while Julia Kline checks in with an 88.9 and seven top 10s.

The Mustangs have not finished below fourth in eight events this spring, including back-to-back first place finishes at the Stevenson Invitational on April 3 and the MAC Preview on April 7.  The MAC Preview was held at Hershey East, with Stevenson posting a 383.

The winner of the 2017 MAC Championship automatically qualifies for the NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championship, which will be held May 9-12 at Bay Oaks Country Club in Houston, Texas.
