Mustangs Split MAC Commonwealth Doubleheader at Hood

FREDERICK, Md. - Stevenson softball senior Erin Stephey hit her 13th career home run while sophomore Alexandra DiGrande recorded four hits as the Mustangs split a MAC Commonwealth doubleheader versus Hood Wednesday afternoon.

  • Stevenson 4, Hood 0; WP: Fulton (9-8), L: Walter (5-11)
  • Sophomore Kayla Briles led off the third inning with a single after reaching on a bunt. After Briles put herself in scoring position with a stolen base, junior Haley Lennon brought her home with a single to centerfield.
  • With runners on first and second, junior Erin Muir attempted to advance the batters with a sacrifice bunt but reached on an error that also allowed Lennon to score from second.
  • An RBI by junior Morghan Fulton gave the visitors a 3-0 lead in the third.
  • In the bottom half of the third, the Blazers (7-23, 1-11 MAC Commonwealth) had runners on first and second with one out but the Mustangs got the lead runner out at third before Fulton struck out the next batter for the third out.
  • DiGrande and junior Danielle Ebbighausen hit back-to-back two-out singles with the latter bringing in a run to give Stevenson (12-19, 4-10 MAC Commonwealth) a 4-0 lead.
  • Hood loaded the bases with one out in the fifth inning before the Mustangs turned a double play on a pop-up to second base with Ebbighausen throwing the runner out at home.
  • DiGrande finished 3-for-3 while both Briles and Lennon recorded a pair of hits.
  • Fulton threw her second shutout of the season, striking out two batters.

  • Hood 3, Stevenson 2; WP: Walter (6-11), L: Monahan (3-7)
  • With two outs in the top of the first inning, Stephey launched her fourth home run of the season. Muir and Fulton followed with back-to-back singles but were left stranded.
  • In the bottom half of the inning, the Blazers responded with a two-out RBI single to score a runner from second base.
  • The Mustangs loaded the bases with one out in the second but left all three runners on base after a foul out and ground out to end the inning.
  • A two-out RBI single by Ebbighausen gave the visitors a one-run lead in the fifth inning.
  • In the bottom of the sixth inning, Hood hit three consecutive two-out singles, pushing a pair of runs across to take a 3-2 lead.
  • Stevenson had runners on first and second with two outs before a single by Ebbighausen but the lead runner was thrown out at the plate for the final out.
  • Muir finished 3-for-4 while both Ebbighausen and Stephey each recorded two hits.

  • It is the fourth complete game this season that Fulton has not allowed any earned runs. She is one win shy of tying her career-best.
  • The Mustangs recorded just one combined error after entering the game with 65.
  • Muir recorded her third three-hit game of the season.

  • Stevenson returns to action on Friday, April 19 when the Mustangs host a MAC Commonwealth doubleheader versus Lycoming beginning at 1:00 p.m.
