CLERMONT, Fla. - Stevenson softball sophomore Morghan Fulton tied her career-high with five strikeouts en route to her first career full-game shutout while senior Tiffany McKee recorded four RBIs on the day as the Mustangs picked up a pair of wins over Hamilton and Southern Maine Tuesday afternoon at Minneola Athletic Complex.
The Mustangs (3-5) opened the day with an 8-2 victory over Hamilton before posting the first shutout of the season with a 3-0 win over Southern Maine.
The Continentals (1-1) opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first inning, but Stevenson responded with three consecutive runs, including a pair of RBI singles in the third inning by Fulton and senior Jasmyn Ogletree. McKee added the third run with a solo home run, her third of the season, in the third inning. The three home runs matches her season total from a season ago.
An RBI single in the fifth inning got Hamilton back within one, 3-2, but the Mustangs tacked on four more runs, including a two-RBI single by junior Erin Stephey. Senior Kate Finnen also added an RBI in the game.
Ogletree and Finnen each finished with a pair of hits. In the pitching circle, Ogletree scattered eight hits and allowed just two earned runs.
The second game versus the Huskies (1-2) was a defensive battle as each team only recorded four hits. Sophomore Danielle Ebbighausen went 2-for-2 at the plate with a run while McKee hit a three-RBI double to clear the bases in the third inning.
Fulton faced 27 batters and allowed just four hits en route to the shutout.
Stevenson returns to action on Wednesday, March 14 when the Mustangs conclude their spring break trip versus Maine-Farmington and Lancaster Bible. First pitch is scheduled for 9:00 a.m.
