Four Mustangs Named to Spring All-MAC Academic Team

ANNVILLE, Pa. - The Stevenson men's volleyball team placed four student-athletes on the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) All-Academic Team as junior Landon Shorts, sophomores Jason Gardner and Derek Tangorra and freshman Logan Smiley were named to the team announced by the league on Wednesday.

The Spring Academic All-MAC teams recognize the top student-athletes both in the classroom and on the field during the 2018 spring semester. The MAC sports information directors nominate and vote on the Academic All-MAC teams, giving 50 percent weight on both academic success and athletic success.

Shorts, a business administration major, was named the MAC Player of the Year as well as to the First Team after ranking second in the league in kills and eighth in hitting percentage. The junior led the nation in service aces and ranked third in the conference in digs.

Gardner, a business administration major, was named to the All-MAC Second Team after ranking fourth in the conference in kills and ninth in hitting percentage. The sophomore also ranked ninth in total blocks.

Tangorra, an English literature and language major, was named to the All-MAC First Team after leading the league in digs, finishing with 33 more than the next closest player. The sophomore finished with double digit digs in 13 contests, including in both the MAC semifinals and championship contests.

Smiley, a business administration major, was named to the All-MAC First Team after ranking seventh in the league in kills and 18th in hitting percentage. The rookie also ranked eighth in total blocks in the conference as well as 16th in service aces.
