STEVENSON, Md. - Highlighted by a combined 30 kills from sophomores Landon Shorts and Jason Gardner, the Stevenson men's volleyball team hit a season-best .532 as the Mustangs downed Thiel in a Continental Volleyball Conference contest Saturday afternoon at the Student Union Gymnasium.
The Mustangs (17-10, 8-4 CVC) needed just over an hour to post a 25-14, 25-16, 25-12 win in just the fifth contest on the Greenspring campus since moving to Owings Mills Gymnasium full-time since the building opened in 2010.
All seven hitters recorded a positive attack percentage, including a .739 attack percentage by Shorts who finished with 18 kills on 23 swings with just one error. Gardner hit .524 with 12 kills and just one error. The duo also totaled all four of the team's service aces.
Freshman Jared Chin got his first career start at setter and finished with a career-best 43 assists while also totaling four digs, one kill and one block assist. Classmate Derek Tangorra had a match-high eight digs.
Senior Nate Ellis finished with seven kills, five block assists and three digs.
In the third set, the Mustangs hit .842 after recording 16 kills and no errors on 19 total attacks.
Stevenson returns to action on Tuesday, April 4 when the Mustangs travel to Alvernia for a Continental Volleyball Conference contest beginning at 7:00 p.m.
