Men's Tennis Finishes Unbeaten in MAC Commonwealth Play For First Time, Sweep Alvernia

STEVENSON, Md. - The Stevenson men's tennis team finished the regular season undefeated in MAC Commonwealth play for the first time in school history after defeating Alvernia, 9-0. The win gives the Mustangs an overall record of 15-2. 

Juniors Ray McDermott and Drew Ryan picked up their 10th win of the year in an 8-4 triumph in No. 1 doubles. Senior Douglas Vaughan and junior Andre Sturniolo cruised to an 8-2 win, giving them an overall record of 15-3. Senior Wornden Ly and sophomore Richie Abruscato improved to 10-0 after dominating their No. 3 opponents, 8-1. 

McDermott earned his 10th singles win of the season in a 6-1, 6-0 triumph in No. 1. Sturniolo took the first set in No. 2 singles by a 6-0 score before his opponent retired from the match. Sturniolo has 14 victories on the year. 

Vaughan dominated in No. 3 singles by 6-1, 6-0 score, improving his record to 13-5. Ly swept his No. 4 opponent by a 6-0, 6-0 margin for his ninth win.

Freshman Larry Johnson III won his third straight and 13th overall by a 6-0, 7-6 (10-4). Senior Peter Appiah Jr. won his fourth match of the year in a 7-5, 6-2 triumph. 

Senior Day for the Mustangs takes place on Sunday, April 28 when they take on Harford Community College. First serve is set for 10:30 a.m.
