Mustangs Shutout Buena Vista (Iowa) in Spring Break Finale

HILTON HEAD, S.C. - The Stevenson men's tennis team improved to 7-0 on the season after defeating Buena Vista (Iowa) by a score of 9-0 in its final spring break match in Hilton Head, South Carolina.

Juniors Ray McDermott and Drew Ryan opened the day up with an 8-6 win in No. 1 doubles, improving their record to 3-1 on the year. Senior Douglas Vaughan and junior Andre Sturniolo cruised to an 8-4 win in No. 2, giving the duo four wins in a row. Senior Wornden Ly and sophomore Richie Abruscato dominated in their 8-1 victory in No. 3 to move to 3-0 on the season. 

Sturniolo won his fourth straight match after taking down his No. 1 singles opponent in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1. Ryan improved to 8-1 after cruising to a 6-1, 6-0 win in No. 2.

Vaughan picked up his fifth straight win in No. 3, 6-1, 6-2, giving him eight singles victories thus far. Freshman Larry Johnson III won his No. 4 match in straight sets, by a score of 6-3, 6-1, to move to 7-1. 

Freshman Lukas Sanidas picked up a hard-fought victory in No. 5, 6-0, 4-6, 1-0 (10-1). 

Senior Peter Appiah Jr. moved to 2-0 after winning his No. 6 match, 6-2, 6-2.

The Mustangs hit the courts next in a road match against Lebanon Valley on Saturday, March 30. The match is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
