Mustangs Open Spring Break with 7-2 Win Over Edgewood (Wisc.)

HILTON HEAD, S.C. - The Stevenson men's tennis team improved to 4-0 after defeating Edgewood (Wisc.) in its spring break opener, held at the Chaplin Park Tennis Center, by a score of 7-2.

Senior Wornden Ly and sophomore Richie Abruscato opened up the day with an 8-5 win in No. 2 doubles. Freshman Lukas Sanidas and senior Peter Appiah Jr. won their No. 3 match by default.

Juniors Drew Ryan and Ray McDermott dropped a tough match to their No. 1 opponents by a 8-7 (7-2) margin. 

McDermott improved his singles record to 4-3 after dropping his No. 1 singles opponent in three sets, 7-5, 3-6, 1-0 (10-4). Ryan took his No. 2 match in a three-set tiebreaker (6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (10-7)), improving his record to 6-1 on the season.

Senior Douglas Vaughan picked up his fifth win of the year after taking his No. 3 match in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. Sanidas dropped his No. 4 match in a three set tiebreak. 

The Mustangs won the remaining two singles matches by default. 

Stevenson would later defeat St. Louis Pharmacy by a 9-0 score. Results are currently unavailable for the match.

The Mustangs take on SUNY Oswego in their next spring break match, which takes place on Tuesday, March 19 at 8:30 p.m.
