Men's Tennis Opens Up Spring Break With Win Over Illinois Wesleyan

Hilton Head, S.C. - The Stevenson men's tennis team opened up spring break with a 7-2 victory over Illinois Wesleyan. Senior Wornden Ly and sophomore Ray McDermott picked up their second win of the spring season in No. 1 doubles, taking the match by an 8-2 score. 

In No. 3 doubles, junior Andrew Ryan and freshman Richie Abruscato won their first match of the spring in dominating fashion, 8-1. 

The Mustangs would later take five of the six singles matches, winning four of them in straight sets.

Andre Sturniolo won his No. 2 singles match by a 6-2, 6-2 margin, while Ryan picked up a 6-2, 6-3 victory in No. 4. Sturniolo has won two of his last three matches. 

Junior Douglas Vaughan triumphed in his No. 5 match, 6-0, 6-3. Abruscato shut out his No. 6 singles opponent, 6-0, 6-0. 

Ly overcame a one-set deficit to take his No. 3 singles match, 5-7, 6-1, 10-4.

The Mustangs (2-4) will compete in their second of three matches in Hilton Head, S.C. on Wednesday, March 14 against Concordia (Wis.).
